Get picked up at Bagan airport on Day 1. Enjoy a free day to explore the ancient city of Bagan, located on the Ayeyarwady River on your own. Following breakfast on Day 2 go for a bike tour to explore Bagan’s beautiful temples and pagodas. Depart by local transport for Pakokku on Day 3 to walk around town enjoying the sights and sounds of the bustling marketplace. Your trip ends on Day 4 upon checking out from your accommodation.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Bagan Airport Pick-Up
Pick up at Bagan airport and transfer to your accommodation for check-in. Bagan, lies on a vast plain at a bend in the Ayeyarwady River and was the site of Myanmar’s first capital. Rest of the day is free to explore on your own and overnight.
Day 2: Bagan Bike Tour (B/L)
Following breakfast, meet your guide in the hotel lobby at 9am as we are off to explore Bagan by bike. The beauty of the temples and pagodas is dazzling, and perhaps the most impressive and inspiring monuments are Thatbyinnyu, Ananda, Gawdawpalin, Dhammayangyi temples and the Shwezigon Pagoda. The temple interiors are often filled with rows of Buddha, images of guardian Nats or spirit gods and intricate murals depicting the life of Buddha and scenes of royalty.
We will stop for a lunch break at a small local restaurant and if there is enough time we might visit the world’s only Thanakha (traditional Myanmar makeup) museum where we learn in-depth about how this powder/paste was made and why it is a large part of daily life for Myanmar people. You will also visit a lacquer-ware workshop and learn about the long and arduous process of making bowls and trays that often take months to complete.
In the evening a climb up of one of the ruins for a breathtaking view of the sun setting over the river and the surrounding plain filled with countless temples and pagodas. Overnight in Bagan.
Day 3: Pakokku Day Tour (B/L)
Pick up at hotel and we depart by local transport for Pakokku, located across the Ayeyarwady River (40 km, approx. one hour). We walk around town enjoying the sights and sounds of this unique rural centre. Explore enchanting Pakokku market, visit local cottage industries. Next visit the Thihoshin pagoda built 800 years ago with an astounding interior that is covered in multicoloured glass mosaics. We will then head to a local restaurant for lunch before our return to Bagan. Overnight in Bagan.
Day 4: Bagan Accommodation Check-Out (B)
Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation and after check-out the trip will come to an end. We wish you a safe journey onwards.
