The Sagrada Familia is one of Gaudí's many impressive works and a landmark of Barcelona. This large unfinished basilica was designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction began in 1882, and it remains incomplete, making it the world's most visited construction site. Gaudí worked on the project for 43 years, from 1883 until his death in 1926. At that time, only the crypt, apse, and transept facade were completed. The basilica is planned and partially constructed in a Gothic-organic style with elements of Art Nouveau and features intricate facades, detailed sculptures, and towers reaching 107 meters high. Construction resumed in 1979, and the cathedral is expected to be completed around 2026, though work continues as funding becomes available. The Sagrada Familia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From one of the tower spires, there is a breathtaking view over Barcelona, but the ascent is long via the winding and partially open tower spires.
