If you have 109 days to spare and want to explore North and Central America, then you will want to consider this trip. It travels along the spine of the two regions, through the great mountains and deserts and gives a great and diverse view of the region travelled through. We travel from the glaciers, ice fields and wildlife of the Northern Rockies and Alaska, through the wonderful national parks of Banff, Jasper, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, and then on into the deserts of Nebraska and Arizona. There is time to explore the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Zion and Bryce Canyon and then for a bit of "civilisation" there's Las Vegas. In Mexico, it's a whole mixture of Mayan, Aztec, Toltec and Zapotec cultures and monuments, which culminate in the astounding beauty of Tikal in Guatemala. But no trip would be complete without beaches, sea and sand and we have plenty of time to chill on Honduras's Bay Islands and on the Belize Cayes. Add in the wildlife of Costa Rica, the beauty of Nicaragua, the beaches and beauty of El Salvador and a canal in Panama and you have a pretty staggering journey.
  • Visit the UNESCO world heritage site of Antigua
  • Trek up Santa Ana volcano in Cerro Verde National Park
  • Overnight in a community project at Suchitoto
  • Guided tour of the Mayan ruins of Copan
  • 3 nights on the Caribbean island of Roatan to swim and relax
  • Farm tour or canyoning in Somoto, Nicaragua
  • 2 nights to get to grips with the politics of Leon
  • Enjoy the charm of the old colonial architecture in Granada
  • Explore Masaya National Park and its dramatic volcano crater rim
  • Overnight and explore Lake Nicaragua's volcanic island of Ometepe
  • 2 nights in La Fortuna with optional excursions to the mighty Arenal volcano
  • Boat trip to the cloud forests of Monteverde Forest Reserve
  • Visit the beaches and guided tour of Manuel Antonio National Park
  • Cross the Panamanian Chiriqui Highlands
  • Explore the Camino Real, the precursor to the Panama Canal
  • A long road journey by iconic American transport, a converted schoolbus. This is an awesome trip. Some long distances to cover but a huge amount to see and do along the way. Loads of activities, from hiking, horse riding, caving, swimming, and boat trips, make this an active journey. A mix of good campsites, hotels, hostels and local guest houses.
