4 Day East Java Explorer

Today you will go from Pemuteran to Banyuwangi. On the way, you will pass by the West Bali National Park before approaching the harbour to board a ferry that will take you across the sea and into the island of Java within 30-45 minutes. Continue to drive by land.

Today you will be transferred from Gilimanuk harbor in Bali to Ketapang harbor in Banyuwangi. Upon your arrival at Ketapang harbor, you will be then transferred to your hotel.

After an early wake-up call and breakfast, a 4-wheel drive vehicle carries you through the rural villages, coffee and clove plantations and then into one of Java’s last rainforests. Humidity, wildlife, giant ferns and big trees cover the slope of the mountain, ending at the Park Ranger’s station to begin the hike to Ijen Crater, along a shady track with spectacular views. The stunning view is unveiled at the peak of 2380 meters above sea level. The lake's eerie color, and smoke wafting from bright yellow sulfur deposits creates a landscape that looks desolate and barren yet vibrantly alive. As the scene unfurls before you, miners do their daily descend into the crater, re-emerging with up to 80 kilos of ore carried in bamboo baskets along the treacherous path. Once you’re finished you will walk down the mountain and be brought back to your hotel.

After taking rest start your journey towards Meru Betiri National Park. On the way there, you will pass by remote villages, and the rubber-, coffee- and cacao plantations that are an integral part of life here in Java. The final road to Sukamade requires some effort as you will be trekking through Macadam up to the point where a river will need to be crossed. Finally reaching the Sukamade checkpoint in the afternoon where you will be staying in the Rangers Guest House. The ranger guest house is very simple and has no air-conditioning. There is also no standing shower; instead you will have the traditional “bak mandi”, a large water tank from which you scoop water over yourself with a small bucket. Everything gets wet! The mandi is very common in rural areas.

After an early dinner, it’s time to watch the turtles lay their eggs on the beach, a sight that is both rare and amazing to witness. You will sit on the beach and wait for the signals from park ranger who search for the turtles. You are not allowed to smoke, turn on flashlights, talk loudy, or make any loud noises. Imagining the sea-turtles take a distance of thousands of kilometers from their origin in the other parts of the continent far away and just laying eggs on the Sukamade Beach. Afterwards, we go back to guesthouse and have nice dreams.

NOTE: It is not guaranteed, we will always find the turtle laying their eggs.

What to bring

Jacket, mosquito lotion, light and adventure shoes. This area is in a remote place, so bring everything with you since there are no shops nearby.

After an early checkout, it’s time to head back to Bali, and on the way, there will be one pit stop for lunch.

Today you will go from Banyuwangi to Pemuteran. On the way, enjoy the view of small cities before approaching the harbour to board a ferry that will take you across the sea andinto the island of Bali within 30-45 minutes. Continue to drive by land. You will pass by the West Bali National Park before arriving to Pemuteran.

Today you will be transferred from Ketapang harbor in Banyuwangi to Gilimanuk harbor in Bali. End of services.
