Want to know what it's like to participate in an Environmental Conservation effort? Roll up your sleeves and work alongside the local community.

Work national parks and help the park with its day-to-day tasks and activities. Join work at a tree nursery and help with tree plantation activities. You will also get a chance to spread awareness and educate the students at a local school on environmental conservation. Help prepare the next generation to look after the planet.
In this endeavour, you will work at a local mangrove nursery for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. This placement is the main nursery that produces young mangrove plants for the local community. Your responsibilities may involve preparing the seed and soil, watering the plant, nursing the plant and planting the mangroves. A local coordinator will be there to provide knowledge and show participants, step by step, from how/where to collect and sort mangrove pods to all the tips that they need to know about how to plant and nurse mangroves adequately.

In addition to meaningful hands-on work to improve the sustainability of the community, such as cleaning up beaches or local communities, creating garbage bins, and washing and sorting garbage, you will also be heavily engaged in the learning aspect of researching, planning and educating the local community members and children with regards to the importance of sustainable environmental practices.

In order to create awareness and encourage environmental conservation among local people and students, you will be presenting their lectures and training sessions on practical topics such as recycling in the home, reducing one’s carbon footprint, how to separate waste properly, and broader topics like the effects of climate change and the need for environmental concern. An English-speaking coordinator will be there to support and help you out with any language barriers.

This is your chance to help prepare the future generations to know the importance of protecting the environment, climate change, and saving the planet. It is our duty to educate them so that they continue our efforts in protecting the environment. Your help and presence will go a long way.

Before participants go to the placement, they will work with local coordinators and review the teaching lessons, materials and activities for that day to ensure continuous lesson plans for children.

You might also consider visiting Khao Tekiab, a mountain at the end of the beach with a temple atop that overlooks the beach. Hua Hin is also surrounded by beautiful national parks and you might decide to go slightly further afield to explore the likes of the Pa La-U Waterfall, located 60 km west of Hua Hin in the south side of the Kaeng Krachan National Park. What Makes a Good Volunteer?

Volunteers need to be flexible and keep an open mind concerning their placements as situations can arise beyond our control which could require you to be placed at a different project than the one you have initially chosen. We will of course always do our utmost to fulfill your initial wishes but do remember that where you are going is quite different from where you are coming and as such one should be prepared for things not always going according to plan.

Volunteering work and intercultural travel share a common trait: the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. This program is designed for proactive individuals and groups that are prepared to adapt to the local environment and its current needs. Naturally, the scheduling and activities of our program are subject to change. At times, alterations in activities are due to changes in local conditions. This can be part of what makes overseas programs the interesting adventure and incredible learning experience that it is.

How Long Should I Volunteer?

Our volunteer partner in Thailand is based in Hua Hin. The focus is on experiencing a range of local cultural activities and traditions, as well as joining ongoing volunteer programs where you can give your time and energy for a few hours each day. The projects and activities we have chosen are interchangeable locally, as it is possible to make a positive contribution within a week. The exception to this is teaching where we believe it is most beneficial to yourself and the school if you commit to four weeks and construction, where we recommend a minimum stay of two weeks. In our experience the longer you stay the more you will gain, as your understanding of the project broadens and you take on more responsibilities. Every volunteer will be given a certificate of appreciation at the end of their stay as a symbol of volunteering stay.

Optional Culture Week

This program can also include a Culture Week which is highly recommended but not mandatory - just inform your travel advisor if you wish to include it. This program is filled with cultural activities that will show you authentic Thailand. During the program, you’ll get a chance to explore several famous sights around Hua Hin, followed by Thai customs, language, cooking lessons. Buddhism will play a big part in a visit to Buddhist temples (‘Wat’ in Thai) to learn about Thai Buddhism. You will experience offering food to Monks at Local temple and also go on an excursion to the Artist Village and learn about traditional Thai arts and crafts. You will also visit Pranburi Forest Park & Mangrove plantations and go on a Pranburi Mangrove Boat Tour to explore beauty of the landscape. We will take you to different beaches where you will be able to sit back, relax and unwind amidst white sand and crystal-clear blue waters.
