Casa de Pilatos is a typical Andalusian palace. Construction of the palace began in the late 15th century and was completed in 1519 by the 1st Count of Tarifa, Don Fadrique de Ribera. The palace’s name and architectural style were inspired by Don Fadrique’s visit to Jerusalem, from which he returned in 1519. According to legend, Don Fadrique attempted to create a replica of Pilate’s house in Jerusalem—hence the name. Pilate’s house is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in Seville.
